7 year old wants a Tarantula (posted in pets too)?

My son really wants a Tarantula for christmas (i know strange but that's my boy for ya) and im not so sure its a good idea. I had one once and their really not hands on pets. i have no problem with one if he knows its not a hamster and can bite. If i do decide to get him one whats a good species to get? Mine was a rose hair and she was mean that's why i no longer have her.
