In the late 1500's why didn't Spain colonize Texas with ranchers which is what Mexico did in the 1820's?
I mean after not finding gold in the area they just forgot about Texas until the French started invading East Texas from Louisiana, The Spaniards built Missions and Presidios (Forts) but did more farming than ranching.
