How much does it cost to transfer ownership of a used car plus any other fees?

We want to buy a car but my dads worried about all th other fees hes going to have to pay. For example, tranfer fees, smog check (if it doesnt have it), plate, and anything else. I realy need to know just about how much that will cost, a rough estimate would be more than helpful. (we are residing in California)
