Christians why does your kind and merciful God sent atheists to hell on purpose?

If God is kind and merciful why does he want atheists to go to hell? An atheist do not believe in God because there is no evidence for God's existence and science has shown that there is no need for a God to exist. It will be difficult for people who thinks skeptically, ytically and logically to believe in a God. If God wants everyone to believe in him wouldn't he have revealed himself? I consider all living organisms to be the evidence for evolution and abiogenesis and Universe the evidence for Big bang and not a creater. God has made no attempt to reveal himself. If he wants people to believe blindly why did he give them the ability to think skeptically, ytically and logically?
